New $70 Fire TV Supports Alexa
« on: September 29, 2017, 07:12:28 AM »
Artificial Intelligence (AI) The Future of Media Streamers and Amazon is Winning.

Amazon may be behind in the battle with Roku for global media streamer domination. Ultimately, they could end up winning the war. Amazon has invested heavily in AI and their latest media streamer now comes with Alexa, a voice activated digital assistant already built in.

Why AI Is Important

Media streamer manufactures have been clamoring to get onboard the AI train. Apple TV has Siri, The Nvidia Shield now has Google Assistant (Hate the name) and Amazon Fire TV has Alexa. Roku is behind the curve here and is scrambling trying to hire a couple programmers to develop a Voice Assistant for their platform.

Alexa is the friendly female voice that will interact with you. You can ask her questions like: What was the score of the baseball game yesterday? What is the weather outside? What is 9 X 72?

With the Fire TV, she can completely replace many remote control button presses by using simple voice commands to find a show, play it, rewind and fast forward.

Now that the new Fire TV has Alexa built in, there is also so much more it can do. Tied into popular home automation controls, Alexa can turn up the temp on your thermostat, dim the lights and even lock your doors.

Price Drop For Fire TV

To compete against the $80 Roku Premiere, the new Fire TV starts at $70 has a microphone enabled remote to talk to Alexa and will support most of the same skills as the Echo Show. This is an Alexa enabled device that now includes a monitor display. They also have a smaller rounder Echo Spot

The new Fire TV will support 4K and HDR content along with Dolby Atmos audio, and can stream 2K content at 60fps.

This latest price drop is just another indication the streamer wars are continuing to heat up. Nvidia just announced they will be selling their popular Nvidia Shield TV media streamer with only the remote control for $170 to compete against the new 4K Apple TV.

Roku will be announcing new hardware of their own shortly. Prices on their streamers most likely drop as well for them to stay competitive and shore up the big bump in price their stock received with their recent IPO debut.
